Warm Summer Solstice greetings, wild souls!
It is a time for celebration in the northern hemisphere as we are experiencing the abundant gifts the sun brings at its peak of brightness. When all species in our neck of the woods are in full glorious bloom. The blessing of the light allows us to see in full glory all we have to be thankful for, from each sweet-smelling variety of rose to the flutter of all winged creatures who grant us permission to freely soar.
The way of the light is to lure all beings into the embodiment of their full genius. Lilies bloom, birds fly, beavers build, and bees are abuzz collecting sweet nectar to transform into a magical golden elixir while performing a dance of pollination that nourishes all living beings.
The peak of earth’s abundance and brightness is pregnant with paradox. The longest, brightest day of the year also initiates the process of decline. Having reached the zenith, we now begin our descent into darkness, reminded that all of life is a cycle, a numinous dance of duality.
Next month in Wildish Collective we will be exploring the tale of Skeleton Woman, who having lay at the bottom of a tumultuous sea for ages, gets hooked by an unsuspecting fisherman. Upon reeling her in, he is forced to come face-to-face with Lady Death who reminds him that all of reality is composed of both what is visible and unseen.
THE SECRET TO A FULL LIFE EXISTS IN THE UNION OF OPPOSITES: LIGHT AND DARK, INCREASE AND DECLINE, LIFE AND DEATH.
This cycle of transformation is the sacred heart-center of being. It requires us to let go of that which does not serve the highest good. Coupled with the power of your intention, this solar waning will help facilitate your own liberation.
Take some time this weekend as the sun appears to stand still in the sky to adorn yourself in solar shades – deep yellow, fiery orange, and brilliant gold – and dance in gratitude as a brilliant living intention to allow the transformational fire of the sun to burn away all that does not light you up. Ask that as its rays diminish during its downward march toward the winter solstice, that it removes from you all that is not your Self.
Here is a sweet, simple ritual to ignite your very own transformation.
Summer Solstice Ritual
Snag a yellow sticky note (or other sun-colored paper) and write down one specific circumstance in your life that you would like to offer on the altar of the Sun as sacred energy to be torched to embers and transformed into something of higher value.
It is good practice when you intend to remove something from your psyche to have formed in your mind a replacement for the void its leaving creates. Write down what you would like to see come in its place. For example, if you are asking for the release of tension or conflict at work or in a relationship, you may visualize a possible resolution. Or simply ask for peace or sweetness to come in its place. If your desire is to finally demolish and update your dated 80’s bathroom, envision beauty – or classic white subway tiles for days – coming into your life.
Align yourself with the blazing energy of the sun and safely burn your sticky note, affirming out loud what you have written. Close your ritual with a glorious dance under the warm rays of our home star.
